In the words of “The Charge of the Goddess,” ‘Whenever you have need of anything, once in the month; and better it be when the moon is full, then shall ye assemble in some secret place to adore the spirit of Me, who am Queen of all the Wise.’ This Full Moon Ritual was taken from a book some years ago; (I don’t remember where I got it from, I think it was from Scott Cunningham) then I adapted to my own ritual purposes. Meditation for less than 15 minutes is usually not enough time to fully relax and meditating for too long (over an hour) is just an excuse for a nap…20 to 30 minutes is usually ideal so I extended the ritual to fulfill these time constraints.
For those of you that don’t know what the “Full Goddess Position” is, I will give you a brief description. The graphic posted here also shows the Full Goddess Position; however, it is exaggerated in the hand position.
- Stand facing the Full Moon
- Put feet together
- Knees straight
- Shoulders back
- Head up toward the moon
- Arm raised at shoulder
- Elbows slightly bent
- Palms facing upward
Have your meditation journal, a blanket or rug for the floor and pillows if you will need them close at hand within your circle. As with anything else used in your circle, make sure that they have been purified prior to using them in a ritual space.
Full Moon Ritual
(Crescents, white flowers and silver on the altar)
(Water in cauldron with silver inside
(Open the Circle)
(Assume the full Goddess Position)
(Chant the following prayer three times)
Wondrous Lady of the Moon
You who greets the dusk with silvered kisses
Mistress of the Night and of all magick
Who rides the clouds in blackened skies
And Spills light upon the cold Earth
O Lunar Goddess
Crescented One
Shadow maker and Shadow breaker
Revealer of mysteries past and present
Puller of Seas and Ruler of Women
I greet your celestial jewel
At the waxing of its powers
With a rite in your honor
(Take a comfortable position kneeling, seated or reclining on pillows if necessary)
(Relax all muscles in your body and your breathing)
(Meditate for 15-20 minutes)
(Chant line below during meditation period)
I pray by the Moon, I pray by the Moon, I pray by the Moon
(Stand and once more assume the Full Goddess Position)
(Again, chant the following prayer three times)
Wondrous Lady of the Moon
You who greets the dusk with silvered kisses
Mistress of the Night and of all magick
Who rides the clouds in blackened skies
And Spills light upon the cold Earth
O Lunar Goddess
Crescented One
Shadow maker and Shadow breaker
Revealer of mysteries past and present
Puller of Seas and Ruler of Women
I greet your celestial jewel
At the waxing of its powers
With a rite in your honor
(Write about your ritual and meditation in your journal. List any visions, thoughts and lessons that may have been taught to you)
(Close the Circle upon completion)
(Try to preform 3 nights in a row…The night before, the night of and the night after the Full Moon)
